Raising Ms. President is a documentary film that answers the question of why women don't run for office and provides solutions as to how we can get more women to run. We've all heard it before: women make up over 50 percent of our population, but ARE less than 25 percent of our state and federal legislators. Some states have done better than others at electing women, but studies continue to show that when more women are seated at the political decision making table, the outcomes are better for US all.
WE TALK TO POLITICAL EXPERTS, SCHOLARS AND NEUROSCIENTISTS, AS WELL AS EVERY DAY PEOPLE about why they think more women don't run for office. We PROFILE two important organizations that have been making an impact in the lives of young WoMEN and our country for almost a decade: IGNITE and Running Start. These two organizations train young women to run for office, teach them about the political process and are instilling confidence in young women to lead. We discover that Having political ambition starts early. We must reach our young women at the high school and collegiate levels because this is when they start to question themselves as leaders and start to make their long term goals.
Raising Ms. President is non-partisan. we are focusED on encouraging young women to lead and to form a more representative democracy. we feel that this should include all women and all voices. As documentary filmmakers, it is not our goal to tell An audience who to vote for, but to make the case, through supporting evidence, that by asking more women to run and supporting them when they do, we will have better outcomes. Historically, the Democratic party has done a much better job when recruiting women, although in the last few years Republican organizations have started to take notice and create their own programs to help recruit female candidates, but OVERALL, there is still so much work to be done.
CHANGE STARTS AT HOME, IN THE CLASSROOM AND WILL COME FROM VOTERS WHO SEE WOMEN AND GIRLS AS OUR FUTURE LEADERS, AND WHO WILL ENCOURAGE, RATHER THAN DISCOURAGE, A YOUNG GIRL'S DREAM OF ONE DAY BECOMING PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. IT IS THROUGH THESE STEPS THAT WE WILL SEE REAL CHANGE AND RAISING MS. PRESIDENT IS EXCITED TO BE A PART OF IT!
